Physically speaking, stainless steel is a steel that is not easy to rust. In fact, a part of stainless steel is both stainless and acidic (corrosion resistant). Stainless steel corrosion resistance is due to the formation of chromium oxide film (passivation film) on the surface. This rust and corrosion resistance is relative. Experiment shows that the steel in the atmosphere, the weak medium such as water and nitric acid oxidation medium, its corrosion resistance with the increase of chromium content in steel, when the chromium content reaches a certain percentage of steel corrosion resistance mutation, that is, from easy to rust to not easy to rust, never corrosion resistant to corrosion. Austenitic stainless steel is the stainless steel that has austenitic tissue at normal temperature. Almost has Cr 18%, Ni 8% ~ 25%, C about 0.1%. In addition to the corrosion of oxidative acid, such steel can resist the corrosion of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and formic acid, acetic acid and urea. If the carbon content is lower than 0.03% or has Ti and Ni, it can significantly improve the corrosion resistance of the steel. High - silicon austenitic stainless steel has good corrosion resistance to concentrated nitric acid.
